Adidas Superstar was introduced to the market in 1969 as low-profile basketball shoes, the first with an upper made entirely of leather and a rubber toe cap, offering better support compared to canvas competitors. It gained immense popularity in the 80s thanks to the group Run DMC and hip-hop culture. Superstar II, an updated version from the 90s with a padded tongue and comfort enhancements, was officially named in February 2025, previously used mainly for collaborations.
