The NMD line was created by adidas' Vice President of Global Design, Nic Galway, debuting in December 2015 as lifestyle shoes that combine BOOST cushioning and modern uppers with design elements from classic adidas models such as Boston Super, Rising Star, and Micropacer. Positioned as urban, travel sneakers, the NMD became a key element of streetwear in the mid-2010s, with many variants of NMD_R1 and NMD_XR1 and limited colorways driving their popularity.
