Nike Cortez was designed in 1966 by Nike co-founder Bill Bowerman as a lighter and more comfortable running shoe. It was introduced to the market by Nike in 1972. It became an icon of culture in the USA, particularly on the West Coast and in Chicano communities, and later transformed from a running shoe to a lifestyle model.
