Adidas Gazelle was introduced to the market in 1966 as a sports shoe for training and indoor sports such as handball. It evolved from the Olympiade model and was the first Adidas model with a suede upper instead of leather or canvas, providing less weight and better protection. It gained popularity in the 70s and 80s, especially in the UK, with updates such as hexagonal soles. Since 2001, it has been re-released in a lifestyle form under the Adidas Originals brand, including the Gazelle Indoor variant, which first appeared in 1979.
